McNamara-Cravalho Wedding – April 9, 2011

Once again Dallas Nagata White (of D’Amour Pacific) and I partnered up to shoot a (second) wedding for the McNamara family at the Hui No‘eau. Dallas’s husband Ed flew in with her and joined us as an assistant/third shooter, and his company was greatly appreciated. Despite the threat of rain in the days leading up to the event, the day ended up being rain-free, if a little cloudy. Dallas took the lead in the bridal portraits and made the most the dramatic moodiness of the skies, and all things considered, I think this was one of our best collaborations yet! Konalani and Ethan were a pleasure to work with, and we were honored that they allowed us to capture their special day. Congratulations to the gorgeous couple!

Lazy Sunday

Spent part of the afternoon with Dallas and Ed White at Ali‘i Kula Lavendar Farm in Kula today. I was too lazy to take pictures, so I set up the camera with the intervalometer and let it fire one frame every second until we left. Forty-five seconds of the same scene seemed a little boring, so I tried to do a quick edit and chop it up a little.

Tonight’s supermoon

Due to the moon’s slightly elliptical orbit, it sometimes gets a little closer to Earth than usual. Tonight is one of those times. Tonight’s full moon appears 13% bigger and 30% brighter than usual, due to the closest pass the moon has made in almost 20 years. Cloud cover obscured much of the moonrise, so I tried to get something a little different from the usual images of a GIANT moon taken with an ultra-telephoto… Also, I didn’t have a tripod with me, so these are all handheld, with the wide shots at high ISO, which is why they’re a little grainy…

Front Street with the Amano Family!

Today, Jenna and I spent the afternoon in Lahaina doing a portrait session with the Amano family. Their daughter Megan is a good friend and old high school classmate of mine, so it was nice to see her home for a little while. Although they live upcountry, the Amanos often spent family time together in Lahaina, so Megan thought it’d be a good idea to surprise them with a portrait session while they were all together. Despite some issues with the wind (messing up their hair!) and some technical difficulties, I think it came out rather well. Their granddaughter Ke‘ana is sooooo cute! Here are some of my favorites from today.

McNamara-Kahaulelio Wedding

Yesterday, Dallas and I, working as Cariño Studios, covered the wedding of Lei McNamara to Jake Kahaulelio at the Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center. I have to say, it was one of the nicer weddings that we’ve shot together, and the bride and groom and their families were a sheer pleasure to work with. We get to work with them again in a few months when Lei’s younger sister Kona gets married here on Maui.

A special thanks goes out to Dallas for agreeing to work an 8-hour shoot on her birthday.

A quick run through revealed a ton of potentially amazing images, and I can’t wait to sort and edit them all and send the proofs to the bride and groom. Here’s a small preview of one of my favorite moments of the evening. And click here for one from Dallas.
